MMO Entertainment revealed on December 10 that Wanna One’s Yoon Jisung had already started thinking about his military enlistment.
Although the Wanna One leader has not received his enlistment notification yet, his agency MMO Entertainment admitted he has been thinking of enlisting in 2019 already.
In line with this, MMO also shared that the idol has been considering taking the test for mandatory police conscription again. The agency, however, gave a further clarification on the matter.
“Those who were born in 1990 are still enlisting, and Jisung was born in March 1991. We expect to receive his notice to enlist next year, so he applied for the conscripted policemen selection examination. However, in the end, he was not able to take it,” it said.
Yoon Jisung is the eldest member of Wanna One, being born in 1991. As per Korea’s new military service law, he must start serving his mandatory service soon, especially as he turns 29 years old in Korea next year.
Based on the new law, Korean males will not be allowed to delay their enlistment anymore once they reach the age of 28 for reasons like graduate school, being an ambassador for promotions, etc. Idols from the 1989 and 1990 lines have already started enlisting this year, for instance BTOB’s Eunkwang and SHINee’s Onew.
Jisung is set to be the first Wanna One member to start military service. However, he is only expected to enter conscription once Wanna One’s activities and contracts as a group finish. The agency also reiterated this as it commented that “for now, he’s focusing on Wanna One’s activities”.
The popular idol is also currently in talks to be part of the musical Those Days, which will supposedly make its run from February 22 to May 6, 2019, and is something that his agency must now consider additionally.
