On Jan. 14, DAY6‘s very first reality program, “DAY6 Real Trip: DAYOFF” was aired. The release of the videos allowed many fans to get excited as it was their first reality program after their debut in 2015.
However, the excitement only lasts for awhile as some fans noticed that once again, DAY6 was being treated ‘differently’ from JYP Entertainment. They started to trend the hashtag ‘DAY6_RealityShow_Boycott’ on Twitter to show their disappointment and attitude about the reality show.
Firstly, it was revealed that fans will have to pay to watch the show. They would have to spend around 20,000 won (approx. 20 USD) and videos would only be accessible through V-Live.
The reasons behind such boycott attempt were also due to the fact that some fans believe DAY6 was not treated like proper artists that they deserve.
The friction between the fans and JYP Entertainment started when they debuted especially since they were sent to busk along Hongdae streets and perform in clubs.
In addition to that, they did not have proper promotions on music shows and the longest they had done were 3 weeks. Continuing, the boys barely have the chance to go onto variety or reality shows.
Despite their short promotional period, DAY6 spent a large amount of their time heading overseas for concerts and fanmeetings. In other words, fans felt that JYP Entertainment alternates their treatment like an idol group and band whenever the situation suits the agency the best.
